A Mother's Love

A mothers love is to support and love,
My mother went beyond and above.

A mothers love is something very sweet,
My mothers love simply can not be beat.

A mothers job is to raise a good man,
My mother made me the man that I am.

A mothers job is to teach you to give,
My mother taught me to cherish, love, forgive.

A mothers job is to teach you respect,
My mother taught me hearts I should protect.

A mothers job is to take you to class,
My mother taught me women are like glass.

A mothers job is very important,
My mothers teachings I'll never forget.

I thought through all things our love would sustain,
Our love got me through both pleasure and pain,
Compared to our love, all others are plain,
Our love was real; something you could not feign,
Then I felt that your love began to wane,
Now you look at our love with such disdain,
Was thinking you could love me all in vain?
Now I'm struggling & trying hard to stay sane.

How

How do you keep the thug out of you?
After spending years behind bars.
How do you keep the hate out of you?
Stay the same man your mother loved.
How do you ignore all the bullshit?
That goes on each day of your life.
How do you cope with abandonment?
Friends and family all disappeared.
How do you deal with imprisonment?
For a crime that never occurred.
How do you keep from losing your mind?
When there's so much insanity.
I want to....remain the man that I was.
But the darkness is seeping in.

I want to look out, see the moon and the stars,
It's kind of hard to do, looking through these damn bars,
Nobody's with me, family's not near, but afar.

When those gates slammed shut, I knew I was on my own,
The next chapter starts now, this one I'm all alone,
Will I ever be free?  Will I ever go home?

Too many friends passed, since I've been on the inside,
No emotions showed, too much time I have to bide,
These feelings I have to suppress, softness must hide.

Don't say you understand, never lived prison life,
You can't understand the violence, hatred, or strife,
There's no love in here, no family, kids, or your wife

All I want to do is see the the moon and the stars,
I want to smell freedom while driving in a car,
Wanna taste freedom, never again see these bars.

I want to fall in love, meet the girl of my dreams,
I miss the experience; Happiness it brings,
A loyal, faithful partner, a Queen for this King.

Can't wait to make love to a love that is so true,
Believe her when she says "I'll never make you blue",
She's out there and I'll find her, Find my love that's true.

Smell her hair, taste her lips, feel a woman's soft skin,
I want to feel love when it's fresh and just begins,
That moment when you realize you're more than just friends.

These are thoughts in my head as I stare from afar,
Looking out in the night to see through these bars,
Knowing true love is out there, under these same stars.

You Are Appreciated

The following poem was written by Mike to me, his mother on Aug. 5th, 1995

You Are Appreciated
How can someone have so much love in their heart,
I realize how much you do love me-now that we're apart
No matter what I've done-you've always been there for me,
But please forgive me because I was too blind to see.

Too blind to see the amount of love a mother has for her son,
You've always been there since Jan. 20-day one.
We've been through some rough times together, well actually quite a few
And you've always tried to point me in the right direction when I didn't know what to do.

You've practically sacrificed your life to raise me right,
You never gave up on me and always put up a fight.
I don't know how to thank you for showing me love,
but most important you taught me about the Lord God above.

You've done things for me no one else would do,
Thanks for loving me...and I love you.
I've turned my life to Jesus, I've turned my life around
And without your love, Jesus I would not of found.

As someone once said "There's no way I could pay you back,
but my plan is to show you I understand,
YOU ARE APPRECIATED!

Out of Sight

I rot in this black hole,
Look out at the black night,
Living with my black soul,
Loved you with all my might,

All directions I'm pulled,
Everyday I must fight,
The blackness is so cold,
No lights ever seem bright,

Nothing's shiny as gold,
All black; there is no light
With Lucifer you're lulled,
You forget wrong from right,

Evil sayings you're told,
Out of mind, out of sight,
I can't do i; I fold,
I can't handle this plight.

In My Head

The evil beings are in my head, always whispering "You're better off dead!
Your family will have more bread."  In this life "You'll never get ahead."
That's the message these demons fed, while feeding off the thoughts in my head
They've planted seeds of doubt and watched them spread, until it was me who said,
"We'll all be better off with me dead."
